This song came about very quickly. I woke early on Thursday (yesterday 2/4/2020) morning about 5.30am. I almost exclusively write songs in my head before I touch an instrument. the chorus came to me at abvout 6am and the entire song was complete by 8am. After breakfast I dived in the studio, worked out the chords from the melody in my head and the entire song was recorded and mixed by 4pm (I usually never rush songs, sometimes they sit in my head half finished for months). This moring (Friday 3/4/2020) I did my usual trick of fucking around with stuff and completey rerecorded the guitar, then final mixing and mastering all done by 4.30pm. In keeping with the speed of the whole operation I decided to release the song straight away, and, here it is, it's rough and ready, but that's how it's meant to be - Enjoy.

The song is a dark but slightly tongue in cheek look at the gentrification of Manchester (could be equally applicable to Lower East Side Manhatten or any other town/city) and how much a city I was once very fond of has changed almost beyong recognitioon for many reasons , some for better, some for worse.

lyrics

(Lyrics)
Walking through these streets I knew so well, they've almost lost their smell and all the taste has gone.
I see a thousand faces talk at me but I don't recognise a single one.
All the things that I held dear are slowly worn away and everything I ever loved has gone.

This City, it's not what it used to be.
This City, It's not the place for me.
Well maybe, maybe it's just me.

From Yeast Didsbury to Medea City suffocating in the stench of hipsters fermenting in their beard old.
Northern Quarter self ipsation, vapid overpriced and artisan makes me recoil.
Watched by a thousand homeless eyes, oh we've all become desensitised, so turn away your eyes.

Piccadilly Gardens once so beautiful to see now all there is is scum floating on a man made sea
